Biography
Daniel Diaz is a physicist and computational research scientist at SDSC working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, research computing and particle physics. On the National Research Platform, he is part of the team that deploys and maintains hosted open-weight large language models for the research community, and he develops and teaches hands-on training on Kubernetes, LLMs and AI agents. As a member of the CMS experiment at CERN, he searches for physics beyond the Standard Model and develops machine learning for real-time data selection on FPGAs. He has served as a co-convener of the CMS Machine Learning Knowledge subgroup and works on AIDA-Scout, a project applying AI to real-time anomaly detection at CMS. Before SDSC, he was a postdoctoral scholar in UC San Diego Physics and an LHC Physics Center Distinguished Researcher at Fermilab. He holds a Ph.D. in physics from Florida State University.
