MESSAGE from the DIRECTOR

Published June 2026

Dear SDSC Collaborators, Partners and All Friends:

This issue brings together highlights from across the SDSC community, ranging from new approaches for treating tuberculosis to predicting frost events, analyzing brain activity and developing next-generation energy storage technologies.

These stories represent not only the breadth of work enabled by SDSC, but also how rapidly the needs of researchers and educators across the nation continue to evolve. One such shift is the growing set of requirements around how data is accessed, managed and protected.

Supporting cutting-edge research means ensuring that our capabilities evolve alongside the needs of the communities we serve. One recent example is the launch of SDSC's new secure computing environment on the Triton Shared Computing Cluster, which makes it possible for researchers to work with controlled-access biomedical and genomic datasets while meeting federal security requirements. I look forward to seeing the discoveries that this new SDSC capability enables throughout our community and beyond.

I hope you enjoy reading about these projects and the people behind them.

Warm wishes,
Frank Würthwein
SDSC Director
