Abstract of the workshop: This workshop will present discussions about three AI-focused supercomputer systems built with AI-focused hardware. In addition to general purpose (CPU+GPU) machines there are new AI-focused hardware-based machines that are recently becoming available to the science and engineering community. The architectures of these resources are specifically optimized for AI applications such as deep learning algorithms. We will discuss the design, procurement, deployment and user/application support associated with these novel AI-focused hardware-based systems that are enabling AI research. Workshop presentations will evolve around three such systems located in the US and funded by the US National Science Foundation - the Habana processor-based Voyager system at the San Diego Supercomputer Center, the Cerebras processor-based Neocortex system at the Pittsburgh Supercomputer Center, and the Graphcore processor-based ACES system at the Texas A&M University. Organizers and speakers of the workshop include PIs and Co-PIs of these machines, AI experts from vendors such as Habana Labs, Cerebras and Graphcore, and AI researchers who are using these types of machines. This workshop will be of interest to the audience who may be planning to procure and deploy such machines, vendors who provide AI-focused hardware and the user community involved in AI research in science and engineering.
