Education and Training

SDSC leverages its expertise and innovation to inspire the next generation of scientists, technologists, and engineers. The K-12 outreach program broadly advances STEM participation through hands-on workshops, internships, and academic mentorship opportunities.

SDSC also provides professional development in versatile computing, big data and computational applications through a variety of channels and partnerships. Researchers, professionals and students in higher education, participate in a wide range of workshops, institutes, degrees and certificate programs.

K-12 Education

Students

  • StudentTECH
    The SDSC StudentTECH program offers year-round science, technology, and programming workshops for students in grades 4-12. 
  • Research Experiences for High School Students (REHS)
    The REHS program helps increase awareness of computational science and related fields of research to students in the San Diego region. Students gain exposure to career options, hands-on computational experience, work readiness skills, and mentoring by computational research scientists.
  • UC San Diego Mentor Assistance Program (MAP)
    UC San Diego’s Mentor Assistance Program (MAP) is a campus-wide program, engaging high school students in a mentoring relationship with an expert from a vast array of disciplines, from History, Marine Physical Sciences and Nanoengineering to Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Athletics and Computer Science.
  • GirlTECH
    GirlTECH San Diego is a non-profit collaborative community organization that encourages and educates young women to learn and apply technology skills, providing them with the ability to lead and improve the tech-enabled society that will shape their futures.

    Online repository of collaborative big data training for the biomedical research and educational community.
  • Big Data Specialization
    Data Science courses and certificate program offered by Coursera.
  • Data Science MicroMasters
    Data Science courses and certificate programs offered by EdX.
  • HPC Students
    The HPC Students Program focuses on educating and training the next generation of High-Performance Computing undergraduates, graduates, professionals and researchers; motivating them to pursue HPC careers; and serving as a bridge between students and HPC-related research and researchers at SDSC.
  • Internet Data Analysis Workshops
    Workshops on various networking related topics offered by SDSC’s Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA). 
  • Masters of Advanced Study in Data Science and Engineering
    The Master of Advanced Study (MAS) is a unique multidisciplinary degree program focused on emerging technology areas that will be crucial for the future of engineering advancements. 
  • SDSC Annual Summer InstituteThe Summer Institute provides a week of hands-on education and training in high performance computing and data science.
  • XSEDE HPC Workshops
    The Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) training activities are designed to expand the user audience for digital discovery tools.
