Education and Training

SDSC leverages its expertise and innovation to inspire the next generation of scientists, technologists, and engineers. The K-12 outreach program broadly advances STEM participation through hands-on workshops, internships, and academic mentorship opportunities.

SDSC also provides professional development in versatile computing, big data and computational applications through a variety of channels and partnerships. Researchers, professionals and students in higher education, participate in a wide range of workshops, institutes, degrees and certificate programs.

K-12 Education


  • StudentTECH
    The SDSC StudentTECH program offers year-round science, technology, and programming workshops for students in grades 4-12. 
  • Research Experiences for High School Students (REHS)
    The REHS program helps increase awareness of computational science and related fields of research to students in the San Diego region. Students gain exposure to career options, hands-on computational experience, work readiness skills, and mentoring by computational research scientists.
  • UC San Diego Mentor Assistance Program (MAP)
    UC San Diego’s Mentor Assistance Program (MAP) is a campus-wide program, engaging high school students in a mentoring relationship with an expert from a vast array of disciplines, from History, Marine Physical Sciences and Nanoengineering to Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Athletics and Computer Science.
  • GirlTECH
    GirlTECH San Diego is a non-profit collaborative community organization that encourages and educates young women to learn and apply technology skills, providing them with the ability to lead and improve the tech-enabled society that will shape their futures.

SDSC’s professional education programs support individuals from undergraduate and graduate students, to researchers, faculty, and other professionals looking to expand their knowledge and education.
