Tips on using K-12 Net usegroups

TEACHERS AND SYSOPS!!! PLEASE NOTE!!!! ==================================================================

It is vital to continually teach your students that they should *NEVER* post their home phone numbers, home addresses or other highly personal data in _any_ public network or echo, including K12Net! If they want someone to snailmail something to them, recommend that they post their school postal address instead.

You should also counsel your students to be routinely suspicious of messages from anyone, particularly adults, asking them for personal information, attempting to arrange clandestine meetings or engaging in other activities which might suggest a problem or unsafe condition. Reinforce this often!

**Consider developing formal teaching units on these themes...!**

While K12Net has been in existence since June of 1990 and has never had a "problem" of this kind, it behooves all educators and sysops to teach our children to exercise routine caution in using this or any other public network.
