This page provides links to many of the major public domain module archives for AVS 5, AVS / Express, and IBM Data Explorer. These archives contain software modules which can be downloaded and compiled for use with the respective visualization system. If you are using any of these packages and need additional functionality, search the appropriate archive(s) for a module with the desired capability. Sites identified in red represent major collections.

AVS (Application Visualization System)

  • AVS 5 Module Repository at the International AVS Center
This is the main AVS 5 module archive. It contains thousands of modules broken up across five categories (input, filters, mappers, output, misc.) for doing just about everything.

  •
  • AVS 5 at the Center for Innovative Computer Applications
This site includes modules for creating keyframe animations, recording animation sequences to videodisc or video tape, and synthesizing sound from elements of data.

  •
  • AVS 5 at Fujitsu Nagano Systems Engineering LTD
Modules for reading VRML 1.0, and writing VRML 1.0, 2.0, and Open Inventor formatted files can be found here.

  •
  • AVS 5 at the Naval Research Laboratory
Modules for animating dynamic vector fields, computing eigenvalues for velocity gradient tensors, colorizing (with opacity) arrays of data, smoothing gridded datasets, creating color maps in RGB space, and more.

  •
  • AVS 5 Module Archive of Alex Knowles
A variety of modules related to padding gridded arrays of data, precise camera control, gamma correction, joining gridded datasets, playback of MPEG and FLI animations, creating dissolves between two images, and more.

  •
  • AVS 5 Module Archive of Greg Johnson
The Collaborative AVS modules can be found here. These modules allow two or more researchers to cooperatively visualize data in AVS. The site also contains modules to animate integer variable pairs, convert 2D scalar byte data into AVS images, read and write Computed Tomography data, crop 3D scatter data, and more.

AVS / Express

  • AVS / Express Module Repository at the International AVS Center
This is the main AVS / Express module archive. It contains hundreds of public domain modules listed in five categories (data IO, filters, mappers, misc., special projects). This site includes modules for performing many common tasks not already included in AVS / Express itself.

IBM Data Explorer

  • Cornell Theory Center Data Explorer Repository
Modules and macros relating to chemistry, earth and space sciences. This site also contains data input filters for FLUENT, PHOENICS, and PLOT3D, macros for annotation, data import and export, rendering, texture mapping, timing, vectors and matrices, and file conversion utilities.

  •
  • Data Explorer at Dartmouth
This site contains a filter to convert SAS data into a format suitable for use with Data Explorer.

  •
  • Data Explorer at Oregon State University
Course notes at this site include a link to a Data Explorer module for creating MPEG formatted animations.

  •
  • Data Explorer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute
A pair of modules for manipulating multivariate data sets in the XmdvTool file format are available here.

  •
  • University of Montana Data Explorer Repository
The Montana repository contains modules and macros relating to color maps, vector statistics, multidimensional glyphing, grid coordinate conversion (such as rectangular to polar), volume clipping, cartographic projection changes, spline interpolation, and more. The site also contains an application to convert GIS, LAN, and ModFlow files to the Data Explorer file format.
