Surfing Madonna

I am a scientist by trade and a dabbler in the arts and letters (and athletics); also a bit of a surfer. Here is my version of "Surfing Madonna" an Encinitas icon (acrylic watercolor) and a poem to go with her.

Our Lady of the Killer Swells

She raises her hands to Heaven and takes the steep fall
Plunging balanced and reckless down the water wall
All around her there in the throbbing Blue Room
A cosmic drum beats cycles of Genesis and Doom
She catches her balance with a big bottom turn
Suns are floating in her eyes and a thousand moons burn there
She folds her hands in swift pranam, gesture of rapt devotion
Our Lady of The Killer Swells - Queen of the Ocean
