A cenote (Mayan word pronounced seh-no-teh)
Is a deep circular rock pool
Formed when underground water
Etches away at limestone bedrock to form enormous subterranean caverns
Eventually the cave roof collapses
Revealing a cenote
The world's deepest cenote is Zacaton
In Tamaulipas State
Perhaps the most beautiful one is Cenote Azul
In Yucatan
The scuba-diving depth record was set inside Zacaton
But no one has reached her bottom yet
Fathomless sapphire and beautiful
Perhaps Zacaton has no bottom?
I like to think she goes on forever
In deepening shades of aquamarine,
Pressure rises with depth though
Such diving is dangerous
Some divers never resurface
The pressure effects you physically and mentally
You might not want to return
And even from safer depths
Where you still remember the surface worlds
You might debate for awhile submerged
Finally you definitely plan to come back up but still defer returning.
Lost, dreaming in opal-blue depths
At length resigned and a little bitter
You have to come back up by stages
Stopping to decompress
Every few hundred meters
The depths are seductive
Once back up on the surface
You want to dive back in again
Yearning for subterranean wonders
Those lazuli ecstasies
You want to push the envelope
Deeper, maybe a lot deeper next time
Maybe past the point-of-no-return
The Tamil Tree is blue, My Krishna is dark blue (called shyam) and
I'm blue too, endarkened
Dreaming of a blue cenote
Deeper than Zacaton
More beautiful than Cenote Azul
It's about 3:30 p.m. on a Shabbat (Friday) on the East Coast where I am
So in Hidden Valley it would be 12:30 PST
The meditation would just be ending and
Some are downfallen in bliss there
Reckless divers
Maybe they went too deep this time
And they can't return or don't want to
Should anyone try to bring them back up?
I don't think so.
If it was me I'd ask you "please don't bother"
They might not want to be rescued.
Later they may resurface slowly on their own
By staged decompression
Something draws me
I would be deeper than ever before inside my shyam cenote
My dreams are all dark-azure now
Whispers my soul softly
"Deeper
Yes
Deeper we will come to be,
Inside beautiful blue inner cenote."
