What is the timeline for the archive migration?

We estimate that the migration from HPSS to SAM-QFS will be completed by December 2009; updates will be provided as we make progress.

  1. Starting in July 2009, SDSC staff will be sending a list of directories currently in HPSS to each user who has had an active compute or data allocation in the past 18 months.
  2. Please respond by the end of July with the list of directories that you wish to have moved; respond as soon as possible for early placement in the migration queue.
  3. During the evalutation phase, you may use ls to look at directory contents or you may delete files.  However, please do not use hsi get to retrieve your files. If you need to retrieve your files during this period, please contact consult@sdsc.edu, and we will retrieve them for you.
  4. HPSS will become read-only at the end of July.
  5. SDSC will migrate data to SAM-QFS disk in phases starting in August. We will inform you when your data is being moved.  During that time, you will not be able to access your data.
  6. SDSC staff will notify you when your files are available for verification.
  7. Files will be transferred from SAM-QFS disk to tape, and data will be deleted from HPSS.
