Triton Affiliates and Partners Program (TAPP)

TAPP offers cost-effective computing resources to University of California researchers and affiliates through the Triton Resource at SDSC. Participants can purchase computing time or storage space to suit the needs of their project or organization. TAPP encompasses purchases by central campuses as well as academic departments, individual researchers, or labs. TAPP is also open to non-UC academic, government, and industry organizations on a capacity-available basis.

Benefits

1. Accessible — short lead time for project startup; no lengthy proposal process or waits-in-queue.
2. Elastic and scalable — pre-purchase only the computing time and level of resources you need. Easily monitor your usage and "account balance."
3. Flexible usage models — purchase time on the shared computing nodes, reserve nodes for your project's dedicated use, or combine models for maximum flexibility.
4. Access to HPC experts for setup, software optimization, and troubleshooting.
5. Avoid using research staff for computer administration tasks.
6. Avoid headaches with maintenance, aging equipment, and project wind-down.
7. Access to high capacity parallel storage system and high bandwidth research networks.

Resources

TAPP provides the following resources and services:

• Time on cluster nodes or large-memory nodes (see table below).
• User support for getting onto the system, help with compilers/software environment: as needed up to ~60 hr/year per 200K base Service Units (SUs) purchased (additional support billed at cost of labor and materials)
• Training programs/documentation to transition existing users and facilitate new users
• Multiple user accounts per allocation (may be limited for large requests)
• Key software packages, including Abaqus, Fluent, IDL, and MATLAB. Non-UC and non-UCSD users may be responsible for licensing costs of commercial software packages.

Pricing Information

Costs may be paid via recharge by UC campuses, departments, or individual researchers at attractive rates. Rates are calculated per base "service unit" (SU), plus indirect costs, where applicable. An SU is defined as one core-hour on the Triton Compute Cluster at 2.4 GHz. Non-UC researchers may contract for capacity by entering into UCSD's standard service or research agreement.
