Summer Institute Schedule Available

—Subhashini Sivagnanam

An updated schedule for the SDSC's 12th Annual Summer Institute is now available online.

This year, the theme of the week-long program is "Taking Your Science to the Next Level: On the Path to Petascale Computing"

Dr. Fred Streitz, Gordon Bell Prize winner, will deliver the keynote address at the Summer Institute.

The Summer Institute will focus on providing solutions for the common limitations faced by our high-end users. The program includes lectures and hands-on laboratory sessions led by experts from SDSC's staff as well as from other institutions who will introduce researchers to technologies that can help them reach their goals faster and more efficiently.

Registration is now closed; applicants should have been notified about their acceptance starting June 1, 2006. If you have not received notice, please contact us at

that Home directories should not be used for Batch jobs
Home directories are good places for login scripts and source files.Because it is NFS-mounted (slower than GPFS), this area is not suitable for storing large amounts of output from batch jobs. Increased home directory quotas for non-I/O intensive work and CVSROOT area for storing CVS directory trees are provided upon request. Users can request the CVSROOT area by emailing Larry Diegel
