Review of Allocation Requests
Details on the review process for Research Allocations can be found in the NSF Resource Allocations Policies.
In short, a successful Research Allocation Request will clearly describe three criteria to permit evaluation of the resource request: Computational Methodology, Appropriate Use of Resources, and Efficient Use of Resources. PIs have the opportunity to appeal the decision of the review committee.
The review process for Startup Allocations is not rigorous, since these allocations are for developing code and exploring TeraGrid resources; however, these requests may be denied or scaled back if the requested machine is not suitable for the proposed research or is heavily oversubscribed.
University of California Academic Associates Program (UCAAP): Researchers at University of California campuses, including graduate students, can apply for free access to SDSC resources through the UCAAP without going through the national allocations process.
