About AAP
The Academic Associates Program (AAP), formerly known as the Block Grant Program, was started in 1995 to give University of California (UC) researchers free access to large-scale computational and data management resources at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC). Researchers may request computational time of any amount, from small start-up accounts suitable for code development to full production runs.
Any qualified UC researcher can apply for supercomputing time using our online application form. To learn more, contact your campus AAP administrator.
Campus AAP administrators are available at each UC campus to review requests and help researchers with any questions they may have regarding the AAP. Administrators can download the AAP Flyer 2008 for distribution to their campus.
The Benefits of Using AAP
- Early access for candidates new to SDSC systems.
- Full access to technical support from SDSC User Services including consulting and training.
- SDSC computing resources may be used for classes taught by UC faculty.
- Priority seating available at SDSC workshops.
- 1-2 day onsite workshops at UC campuses upon request.
- 1-2 week internship programs for selected research groups; one per campus per year.
Additional Opportunities
The Strategic Applications Collaborations (SAC) program pairs academic researchers with SDSC staff to accelerate the researchers' efforts and to enable new science on relatively short timescales (3-12 months).
