Biography

Andreas Prlić is a Project Scientist at SDSC. He received his PhD from the University of Salzburg, Austria. After four years as a PostDoc at the Welcome Trust Sanger Institute in Cambridge, U.K., he joined the UC San Diego in 2008. At the Protein Data Bank he enjoys combining his IT and science skills to deliver high performance and scalable scientific algorithms, applications, and web sites for large user communities. He has published more than 30 papers in a number of different journals. He is editor at the journal PLOS Computational Biology, where he helped build up the Software Section for the journal with an emphasis on publishing open source software which has large scientific impact. He is also an author of editorials, e.g. Ten Simple Rules for the Open Development of Scientific Software. Since 2009 he is also Project Leader of the open-source project BioJava, which is a widely used software library for processing of biological data.
