SDSC 25-year Anniversary Celebration
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On October 12, 2010, SDSC will celebrate its 25th anniversary of "Turning Data to Discovery" with a commemorative event that reflects on our past, but with an eye toward the future.
We'll be touting many of our achievements in science, technology and community outreach that has made the Center a valuable local, state and national resource to the academic research community and others in need of SDSC's unique resources and expertise. We'll also provide an overview of the Center's most recent advances in the field, in addition to a glimpse into what's in store over the next few years for SDSC and its user community here at UC San Diego and beyond.
Our speakers will include Chancellor Marye Anne Fox; Dean Frieder Seible of the Jacobs School of Engineering; Larry Smarr, Director of Calit2; and Sid Karin, SDSC's Founding Director; and Fran Berman, Vice President for Research at RPI and former SDSC Director. A morning symposium will focus SDSC's past and present accomplishments, and future initiatives, with panels discussing scientific achievements, technological advances, and life-changing community outreach made possible by SDSC.
An award ceremony will honor those who played key roles in the Center's founding, in addition to the publication of a list of the "Top 25" scientific and technology achievements enabled by, or created by, SDSC staff. These achievements, and other milestones, will be part of an SDSC timeline, to be posted outside the Center's new data center.
The event begins at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast, with formal ceremonies from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m, followed by refreshments, and an optional tour of the Center's machine room and display wall.
So, please join us for the talks, the awards, the memories, and refreshments... hope to see you there.
