Nanorobot Walks on Two LegsLudwig Bartels of UC Riverside, a participant in the SDSC Academic Associates Program, and Talat Rahman of Kansas State University, together with their respective research groups have created a nanorobot the size of a single molecule that is able to walk on two "legs" in a straight line on a flat surface. The DOE supported research demonstrates linear diffusion of 9,10-dithioanthracene on a highly-symmetric Cu(111) surface, with potential applications in efficient data storage by molecular manipulation.
