Making the Most of the Protein Data Bank (PDB) at UCSD
The Protein Data Bank (PDB) is the world's single repository
on the 3-D structures of biological macromolecules. It is going through
an unprecedented growth as the result of structural genomics projects
worldwide. The data access and distribution component of the PDB is
housed at UCSD, however few researchers take advantage of this in
their daily research and education activities. This presentation is
a first step at changing that situation. The session will cover the
contents of the PDB, current implementation of a completely redesigned
version and new levels of data quality. Finally a few examples of
how those in the life sciences can exploit PDB information will be
given.
The San Diego Supercomputer
Center (SDSC) is a research unit of the University of California,
San Diego, and the leading-edge site of the National Partnership for
Advanced Computational Infrastructure. SDSC researchers conduct studies
in computational science, develop high-performance computing and networking
technologies, and participate in NPACI activities.
