Abstract:
The Singapore BioMed Grid Project: Building the IT infrastructure for biomedicine in the 21st century.

At the dawn of the 21st century, it is apparent that information technology has become the engine for experimental biology and medicine. This is evident in a whole array of disciplines, ranging from structural biology, genomic, medical imaging, all the way to the newly emerging areas associated with the study of gene and metabolic regulation. We outline our ongoing effort for putting in place the IT infrastructure needed to meet the demands of biomedical R&D efforts in academia and industry, in Singapore. The goal is to provide uniform, scalable and location independent access to geographically and organizationally dispersed heterogeneous resources for addressing the many scientific challenges to extract knowledge from the deluge of genomic and clinical data.
