Function

*QUALIFIER is used to test for a qualifier phrase.

Since textual comments in the CSD are composed in "free-language" it is not recommended that such searches are conducted. Rather, when a hit is encountered the qualifier phrase, if present in the entry, is always displayed as a standard reference item. However, some of the comments also have related bit screens which can be used for searching, as illustrated below.

This field is used to record various attributes of the compound or crystal study. Examples are:

monoclinic form, at 150 deg.K, neutron study
low-melting isomer, absolute configuration
refinement of data of Smith, JCS(A) 123,1967
red form, high-angle refinement
data set from Mo radiation
anti-epileptic activity

From these examples it can be seen that qualifier phrases are commonly used to distinguish poymorphs or to distinguish one data set from another.

Qualifier phrases are always included in the entry for:

temperature other than room temperature
neutron study
absolute configuration
drug activity
