THE SEARCH MENU
Function
The SEARCH menu is shown below.

It is used to compose non-structural tests, retrieve database sub-sets and set
up control commands for the search.
Remarks
The commands available via the menu buttons are fully described in this
chapter, ordered alphabetically by command name or group. The functions of the
commands can be summarised as follows:
- RETRIEVE
- to retrieve a sub-set of the database, specified by a list of reference codes
- TEXT
- to display the TEXT sub-menu
- NUMERIC
- to display the NUMERIC sub-men
- SCREENS
- to display the SCREEN sub-menu
- ELEMENTS
- to test for the presence of specified element(s) - see also *ELEMENT
- FORMULAE
- to test for specified numbers of atoms of elements in a single
residue or in the sum formula (see also *RESIDUE, *SUMFORMULA and
*RESFORMULA)
- REDUCED-CELLS
- to construct a test for matching of reduced unit cell parameters (see also *nCELL)
- PEPTIDE-SEQ
- to test for amino-acid sequences in peptides (see also *PEPTIDE)
- PRINT
- commands to specify content and format of information displayed for
hits (see also PRINT)
- SAVE
- commands to specify which files are to be saved for hits which are
kept (see also SAVE)
- GLIST
- commands to save, for each kept hit, the complete set of angles, bond
lengths, torsion angles
- STOP-LIMIT
- to set the maximum number of hits to be kept
- STATISTICS
- to generate bit screen statistics for the hit entries
- BEGIN-AT-REFCODE
- to specify the reference code at which database searching
will begin
- HITALL
- to declare that all database entries are to be classed as hits
- START
- to initiate the search if only screens are used, or if HITALL is
used, or for a similarity search if no tests are involved
- FASTQUEST
- to initiate the search with tests combined by the .AND. logical
operator
- QUEST
- to display the QUEST sub-menu which enables the search tests to be
combined in any logical combination and the search to be initiated
- INFO
- to provide general information about the control parameters which have
been set
- TYPE
- to display the contents of the instruction document
- NOJOURNAL
- to suppress the writing to the Journal file of reference
information for kept hits
- NOSCREENS
- to switch off any screens which have been set automatically or
explicitly
- COMMAND
- to by-pass the graphical interface and input a single-line
instruction by typing it
- REFRESH
- to restore the screen display
- CANCEL
- to cancel the construction of a test
- HELP
- to invoke the HELP system for information about a command or other
feature
- EXIT
- to exit from the current session
This chapter also contains information on the control instruction CONCATENATE
which is concerned with very long instructions. This feature is available only
in QUEST and not in QUEST3D.
