Function

DELETE-FRAGMENT is used to delete one or more already stored fragments.

Remarks

Although the maximum number of fragments which you can store is 100, with more than 20-30 fragments the program gets noticeably slower in fetching them. Once you no longer need stored fragments it is recommended that you use DELETE-FRAGMENT to remove unwanted ones.

Example

Select DELETE-FRAGMENT

The fragments are fetched and displayed as shown in (i) on below;

then you are prompted:

Please use the cursor to toggle structures to be deleted:
Re-select "DELETE-FRAGMENT" when you are ready to delete.
(Select "CANCEL" if you don't want to DELETE any fragments after all.)

Select structures 1, 5 and 7

Each fragment you selected will now have a red box drawn around it as in (ii) on the below. If you change your mind about deleting a particular fragment, just click on it a second time to de-select it. When you have selected all the fragments to be deleted
Select DELETE-FRAGMENT

After a few seconds, you will receive a message telling you how many structures are left in your SAVE file:
```
There are now 6 entries in your file
```
The program is now waiting for you to select another command.
If you have no structures in the SAVE file, when you select DELETE-FRAGMENT the program will respond:

ERROR - There are no entries in the file

Note for VAX/VMS users: DELETE-FRAGMENT creates a new version of your .SVE file, rather than overwriting the old one. This means that you can go back to the original one, before deletion, simply by deleting the highest version number <problemname>.SVE file, after a DELETE-FRAGMENT operation. If you definitely don't want to keep the previous entries, you could PURGE the old file to save space.
