2D searching of chemical structures - often called connectivity searching

3D searching of crystal structures - often called geometric searching

1D searching is sometimes referred to as non-structural searching.

In this chapter the construction of 1D search tests will be summarised, first for Graphics QUEST 3D and then for Basic QUEST. At the end of the chapter a "guide" is presented to assist users in the location of individual search details in Vol.2.
