Volume 1 Chapter 3 ELEMENTS and PRINT Sub-menus
Back to Table of Contents
As their names imply,
- the 1D menu displays the 1D text and numerical data for the current hit
- the 2D menu displays the 2D chemical diagram, if one is available for
the current hit
- the 3D menu displays the 3D crystal diagram, if one is available for
the current hit
- the 2D/3D menu displays both 2D and 3D diagrams.
Although the orientation of the menu areas in these menus is different in
each menu (to make most efficient use of the space available), the scheme
may be summarised as follows:
- When a 3D diagram is displayed, the dialbox is visible. This set of
blue and yellow icons allows the crystal structure view to be rotated,
scaled and translated.
- In all four menus, commands are grouped together according to their
function. For example, some commands provide more information about the
current entry, or the state of the search. Other commands allow you to
change the current view, for example, to display a packing diagram.
-
When the first search hit is encountered the screen is cleared and a
2D/3D display such as that shown below is generated.
Six units of information are presented in this display:
- The LOGO area contains summary and control information:
- the CCDC logo
- the reference code of the current hit
- the number of hits which have been kept in the current search
- the ordinal number of the entry in the database
- the button To 2D which allows the user to select the 2D display
- the button To 3D which allows the user to select the 3D display
- Note that clicking the mouse in the CCDC logo refreshes the display.
- The 2D chemical diagram is displayed in the top-right area.
If no 2D-chemical diagram is available for the entry the following statement
is displayed:
No chemical diagram
- The 3D crystal diagram is displayed in the main drawing area.
By default a colour-coded stick diagram in minimum overlap view is shown.
If no 3D-crystal diagram is available for the entry the following statement
is displayed:
No 3D Structure Diagram
- Reference information, displayed in the dialogue area, is
scrollable with the arrow keys on the keyboard.
- Menu commands are displayed below the 2D chemical
diagram.
- A dialbox for manipulation of the 3D crystal diagram is
displayed in the bottom-right area.
This feature allows the user to rotate, move and scale the 3D crystal
diagram.
