Function

TEMPLATES is used to replace the BUILD menu with the TEMPLATES sub-menu - see below.

Remarks

The TEMPLATES sub-menu contains 20 template sets providing 168 structural fragments which can be used as a short-cut in generating a chemical structure. These are shown in full in Appendix 9.

Inspection of the TEMPLATES sub-menu shows that the options are divided into 3 groups:

Twenty sets of templates - Ring-systems, etc.
Feldmann notation for fused ring systems
Control commands

The numbers 31, 45, ..... 86 against the first 16 template sets are the chemical class numbers - the full names of these classes are given in Appendix 2.

Example

Select TEMPLATES

The BUILD menu is replaced by the TEMPLATES sub-menu.

Please select a set of TEMPLATES, or CANCEL if you don't want a
template.

Select 51-Steroids

The TEMPLATES sub-menu is replaced by the 51-Steroids sub-menu - see (i) below.

To select a TEMPLATE, place cursor over required structure, and click a button.
If you don't want any TEMPLATE, select TO-BUILD

Select steroid number 1

Retrieving TEMPLATE ...

The BUILD menu is restored.

Please use cursor to select the CENTRE of the template in the drawing area.
Select "CANCEL" if you don't want a template.

Select the position a in (i) on the facing page.
The steroid is now displayed as shown in (ii) below.

Note that you can also return to the TEMPLATES sub-menu by selecting a blank space

either in the drawing area eg. b in (i) on the facing page

or below the template structures eg. c in (i) on the facing page.
