Function

RING is used as a short-cut in generating a ring of three or more atoms.

The ring is constructed using the current element and bond type.

Example

Select RING

How many atoms in RING ? (Type 0 if you don't want a ring after
all)

Type 6 <R>

Please use cursor to select the CENTRE of the RING or select
CANCEL.

Select a position in the drawing area
The drawing area now contains (i) - see below.

Let us now continue the process.

Type 5 <R>

Please use cursor to select the CENTRE of the RING or select
CANCEL.

Select position b
The drawing area now contains (ii).

You should note that the option RING allows the building of rings of size 3 to 49. If you request a larger ring size then you will be advised of the limits:

Type 50 <R>

The maximum possible number of atoms in a RING is 49 and the minimum is 3.

Note: If the GRID is switched on, and the centre of the ring selected is close to a grid point, the centre of the ring will lie exactly on the grid point. This is particularly useful for 6-atom rings.
