11.2 Basic QUEST

11.2.1 Continuation of the Search

Consider the following hit display:

The search can be continued in two modes:

hit-by-hit options

K, R

fast continue options

P, C, F

• If you type K the current hit is accepted, the information displayed is written to the Journal file and the search continues until the next hit is encountered or the end of the database is reached.

• If you type R the current hit is rejected, the information displayed is not written to the Journal file and the search continues until the next hit is encountered or the end of the database is reached.

• If you type P the current hit is accepted and the search continues until the end of the database is reached or the stop-limit is exceeded.

  For each hit the reference information is displayed and written to the Journal file.

  After every 1000 entries the hit statistics are displayed (MIP implementation only).

• If you type C the search continues until the end of the database is reached or the stop-limit is exceeded.

  No information is written to the Journal file.

  As each subsequent hit is encountered only the reference code is displayed, for example:

     >Hit = AMCILL
     >Hit = AMOXCT10
     etc.

• If you type F the search continues until the end of the database is reached or the stop-limit is exceeded.

  No information is written to the Journal file.

  For the rest of the search only hit statistics are displayed after every 1000 entries, for example:

      4 hits after 2000 entries, 99% screenout at ANDRON10

  Note that the display of hit statistics after every 1000 entries applies strictly only to the MIP implementation.

11.2.2 Termination of the Search

EXIT

STOP

QUIT

• If you type E summary statistics are displayed and the search terminates immediately.

  The current hit is not kept.

• If you type S then the following prompt is displayed:

  OK, job will EXIT after this entry ...
  Type "K" (Keep), "R" (Reject) or "O" (for list of options)

  STOP gives you the opportunity to keep or reject the current hit before terminating the search.

• If you type Q summary statistics are displayed and the following prompt is displayed:

  Now continue (or type "EXIT" to finish)

  QUIT terminates the search process without exiting from QUEST so you have the opportunity, for example, to re-formulate your search question and start searching again.

  Note that the Journal file will not contain any hits which were kept prior to quitting.
