    Description: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame seeks a person to operate an existing Structure Facility. Equipped with three Bruker Smart Apex CCD instruments, the facility provides single crystal data and full structure solution to users in the department and beyond. The incumbent is expected to work with graduate students and others in developing skills and expertise in structure solution, as well as provide maintenance and repair for equipment and instrumentation of the facility. Opportunities for professional development are provided. Rank (non tenure track) and salary appropriate for experience. The position is available immediately and an anticipated starting date is Fall 2008, but other dates can be arranged.     Description: X-Ray Diffraction Facility Manager, Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill The Department of Pharmacology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (http://www.med.unc.edu/pharm) invites applications for a non-tenure-track, fixed term position X-Ray Diffraction Facility Manager, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Start Date: August 1, 2008 or as soon thereafter as possible. The University of North Carolina is seeking a manager for our Macromolecular X-Ray Crystallography Facility (non-tenure track faculty). The facility is state of the art with two x-ray generators (Rigaku RU-3HR and MicroMax007 HF) with R-axis IV++, R-axis IV, and Saturn CCD detectors, an Actor Robotic crystal mounting system and Varimax HF and HR optics and X-Stream2 N2 cooling. The facility also has newly installed automated crystallization screening tools (Phoenix crystallization, Alchemist liquid handler, and Minstrel imager with two associated plate hotels). This person will be responsible for 1) maintaining the instruments in top working condition; 2) providing new user support and training; 3) managing billing and financial reports. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in a discipline using x-ray crystallography, will have the ability to maintain complex scientific laboratory equipment and will interact and communicate effectively with all levels of individuals in a professional manner. The UNC structural biology community is diverse and includes six supporting PIs and an approximately equal number of associated laboratories that make active use of the facility for structure determination. Areas represented include signaling, immunology, enzymology, drug design, and molecular evolution.     Description: Georgetown University has an immediate opening for an X-ray Diffraction Facility Manager (non-tenure track faculty member). The position is currently a one year appointment, though we anticipate the potential for renewal. The manager will be responsible for: i) maintaining the instruments in top working condition, ii) providing user support and training to new users, including the teaching of a hands-on, graduate-level course in X-ray diffraction, iii) some service crystallography, and iv) managing billing and financial reports. The current facility consists of two X-ray diffractometers: a Bruker SMART single crystal diffractometer, recently upgraded with an APEX II CCD detector, and a Rigaku R-AXIS RAPID curved imaging plate multipurpose diffractometer, each equipped with N2 cooling devices. The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or equivalent experience using small molecule X-ray crystallography, preferably in both single-crystal and PXRD applications. The successful candidate must have the desire and ability to teach effectively, strong communication skills, and the ability to maintain complex scientific laboratory equipment.
